This is my first My Little Pony animation commission. This was requested by Squeno for Aoxis. Starling is an Original Character created by Aoxis.
The pony animations I've done in the past were simple loops. This is the most dynamic pony animation I've done so far. It took me over a month to do. I can finally breathe a sigh of relief knowing I've finally finished this animation, and I think it turn out great too.
The gimmick with this character was that she's a poor flier, hence the struggle in the animation.

I was just creeping around your gallery a bit and I remembered I had wanted to comment on this one! Okay, its obvious right off the bat that your animation is improving a lot which is great but I hope that I can point out a few things to keep note of in the future. I see some discussion about her legs in other comments and I don't think the issue is with her front legs being too heavy, it's with her back legs becoming short like a regular pony's legs when she's up in the air. If they stayed long and slender then it would have looked fine I think, but you just have to watch that you don't lose your proportions while animating. The front legs do grow a little bit as well and her tail loses a lot of it's volume. You could make her look like she's got a lot less gravity pushing down on her in the air if her tail fluffed up a bit when suspended for the few short seconds. On the way down the tail shrinks considerably as well. She has a fabulous take off and landing though and I think you really got the hang of the mane bouncing around as she moves. Just things to remember for next time! :D
Because you asked for critique, I won't give an official one but I'll back what the others have said about her front legs. They're great when she's on the ground, but they're off when she's struggling in the air. They feel too heavy - maybe that's why she's having trouble flying?
The flight troubles were part of the character that Squeno established when he asked for the commission. Yeah they do look a bit heavy in hindsight, but then again, most alicorns do have longer legs.
Impressive! I'm not used to seeing OC's in motion!
If there's a nitpick, the hooves look a bit too long. Then again, I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to be (many people do that to their OC's for more height).
Can't deny I'm tempted to ask for something like this for one of my OC's. The stumbling block's that his design's something I'm considering tweaking.
my critique because i could think of anything else to write...
I love this. It looks amazing, and im glad you posted this, because its a grand addition to deviantART! I think you should try making a video with your animation skills.. then again.... i may just be too enthusiastic, my art is horrible.. heh heh... but i honestly think this is beautiful, i wish i had the talent to do this... i like the horn, even though mine is too normal for an alicorn, but she is anyways.....
